Bindingsterapie met Dr Bernie Dagety

Liewe Dokter

Bernie was 'n baie goeie spieël vir my.

Vriendelike groete
Leanor

Dear Dr. Bernie

On the 7th of January 2010 we were contacted and advised that there is a beautiful baby boy and we had been chosen to be his parents. We were of course beside ourselves with joy at the news. The time came to fetch him but not without its fair share of fears for me, will I be good enough, will we bond, will he like me.

It was suggested that I schedule Bonding sessions with Dr. Bernadette Dalgety. Two weeks later we met for our first session and every week thereafter for four weeks.

Wow, what an amazing experience to deal with Bernie. You are immediately put at ease and made to feel comfortable. My baby was mesmerised by her, her look, her voice, she was just so gentle with him. I know that Oliver and I would have bonded naturally, but having gone to Bernie just showed me how to utilise everyday moments and things to help us to strengthen the bond while teaching baby and strengthening his little body.

I would recommend to anyone who is adopting or has difficulty forming a bond with their baby to have these sessions with Bernie, she helps you even where you don't think you need help.

Bernie, thank you so much for all you have done for us and for always being there to lend an ear when I have needed to chat….God brings people into our lives for a reason and I am so grateful that he brought you into mine.

Love

Stacey & Oliver

SO YOU WANT TO ADOPT… NOW WHAT?

Adoption is quite simply, creating families. In South Africa, adoption allows people to create loving and safe homes for children who otherwise might not have had these. Adoption is no longer only an option for people who are unable to conceive, but also becoming an alternative to those who are aware of the desperate need for safe and loving homes for existing children, who are in need of care.

THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ADOPTION:

Openbaarmakende aanneming / Disclosed adoption:

Nie-Openbaarmakende aanneming / Non-Disclosed adoption:

As a result of a long and slow moving queue for adoptable white children in South Africa, more and more people consider adopting cross-cultural, including, coloured and combination white/coloured children.

Nobody can adopt unless screened by a Social worker, who is accredited and registered as Specialist in Adoption work.

According to the Children's Act 38/2005 post adoption agreements can be drawn up, if in the best interest of the child.

SCREENING OF APPLICANTS INCLUDES:

  • PARENT TRAINING CLASSES

  • These help you to understand a child's need and help you decide what type of child you can parent best.
  • INTERVIEWS

  • These may be individual / joint interviews or both. Interviews will help the Social worker better understand your family and assist you with an appropriate placement.
  • HOME VISIT

  • HEALTH STATEMENTS

  • You will be required to have a complete physical to show that you will have a normal life expectancy and that you are physically and mentally able to care for a child.
  • INCOME STATEMENTS

  • The purpose of an income statement is to prove that you are financially stable and that you handle your finances responsibly.
  • BACKGROUND CHECK

  • A criminal and child abuse background check must be done for obvious reasons.
  • PROFILE

  • This is to help whoever is helping you to make a good match.
